JUSTVANILLA / Survival perspective

Planning a survival build without teleport commands

Plan a JustVanilla survival build without teleport commands. Use a supply-trip checklist, choose a familiar route and prepare your return before setting out.

Choose the journey as well as the site

Without teleport commands, choosing a building spot also means choosing a trip you will make more than once. A dramatic location might be worth the walk, but it helps to know what you are committing to before carrying all your supplies there.

Choose a route and plan the return

Nether-roof travel is another option for covering distance on JustVanilla. Plan your return to the Overworld before setting out: know where an existing usable portal is, or carry the materials needed to build and light one. Include those supplies when planning your trip.

For a first visit, choose a route you already understand; Nether-roof travel is optional.

A small-cabin plan: a hypothetical example

Imagine you want to build a cabin on a hill. Your first-session target is a 5-by-7-block outline and a small shelter, not the finished cabin.

First, walk the route with basic tools, food and only the supplies you need for that visit. Notice obstacles and the return journey. If the route feels tedious before construction starts, choose a closer site or reduce the first build rather than assuming you will enjoy many supply runs.

Make a supply decision before each trip

For this example, set aside two stacks of planks as a starting material budget, alongside tools and food. That is a budget for the first stage, not a complete building recipe. Count the next stage’s materials before leaving so you do not carry decoration blocks while forgetting the tool you need.

Before setting out, separate what finishes this stage from what can wait. Decoration for a later room does not make a missing-tool trip more useful. A short written plan is easier to check than a vague intention to bring more supplies.

  1. Finish line: write one visible outcome, such as marking the cabin outline or closing in the small shelter. This is your chosen goal, not a requirement to finish the whole build.
  2. Materials and tools: list what that stage needs, then compare the list with what you are carrying. Keep quantities tied to your own design.
  3. Travel and return: pack food and the supplies your chosen route needs. If you choose Nether-roof travel, include the return-portal plan before allocating space to optional decoration.
  4. Return load: decide what you expect to bring back and leave room for it. If you cannot carry everything, choose the priority for this trip instead of assuming another run will be effortless.
  5. Stopping point: decide in advance what can wait. In the cabin plan, a third trip only for roof details can become the first job of the next session.

Make the next trip worth taking

Before leaving again, compare the missing item with the work it would unlock.

The route or return portal is uncertain.Resolve the return plan first. A full load of building materials does not solve an unclear way home.
The load contains more than you are willing to lose.Carry only what you're willing to lose, or split the trip. Other players can still take your supplies.

Check the plan against the risks

A route or storage spot is not guaranteed safe. JustVanilla has no land claims, and the rules allow stealing and PvP within their limits. Decide how much you are willing to carry or leave behind. The Overworld, Nether and End never reset, with no exceptions, but this does not protect a supply chest from other players.

Leave a plan for your next session.

At the end of the session, keep a short note: what you completed, what you need next and whether the journey is still enjoyable. You might keep the cabin small, change the route or bring different materials next time. Let the first visit inform the larger plan.

A useful note for your next session can be as short as: completed — [stage]; next — [one task]; bring — [materials and tools]; return — [route or portal plan]; leave for later — [optional work]. Keep any route details or base coordinates private.
